If you find yourself without a designated driver this Fourth of July, there are still several ways to get home safely.
AAA will offer its Tipsy Tow service from 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, until 6 a.m. on Thursday, July 5. This service gives people too intoxicated to drive a free ride home and a free vehicle tow for up to 10 miles. Standard towing fees will apply for any distance greater than 10 miles. Roadside assistance is not provided.
Anyone can use this service, whether or not they are an AAA member. To request a ride, drivers, passengers, friends, bartenders or restaurant managers should call 1-800-AAA-HELP (1-800-222-4357) and say they need a tipsy tow. The driver will need to provide their name, home address, phone number, location and vehicle description.
SafeWise also aims to prevent drunk driving by sponsoring up to $1,000 in Lyft rides on July 3 and 4. The first 100 Utahns who apply on July 3 will receive a $10 Lyft credit they can use during the holiday. To apply, visit the Safe Rides homepage of the SafeWise website found here.
Drivers in the Salt Lake area can also receive reimbursement for a cab ride through the Robert J. Debry and Associates firm. To qualify, the ride must fall between 3 p.m. on July 4 and 3 a.m. on July 5 and be in the Salt Lake metro area.
A reimbursement form must be filled out within 10 days of the holiday and is found here. An original copy of the receipt and a copy of the driver’s license must be included as well. Reimbursement will be up to $35.
